FINISHED VIDEO
EVALUATION
For our preliminary task, we decided to film a conversation between Caleb and Charlie in which Caleb asks Charlie hows the divorce going.? in a kitchen. The reason for making a preliminary video is to test our skills with the camera and seeing if we can perform each of the camera techniques. The camera angles we had to include were; match on action, 180 degree rule and shot reverse shot. For match on action we used a shot of Charlie walking through the door which was then seen from the other side. We used shot reverse shot when filming the conversation between Charlie and Caleb at the table. Following the 180 degree rule meant keeping the camera between the semi circle. The roles we all took on when creating and planning our prelim. As Charlie and Caleb were wanting to act in the video, they then took responsibility for planning their outfits and any props they wanted to ensure the video had the mood they wanted - they also thought about a scenario that would be funny to the audience as they wanted a comedic side to the video. I was mainly in charge of getting together a plan after discussing ideas in the group with story boards and treatment to make sure we had a plan to follow and could film effectively and efficiently.
The strengths of the video were that it included all the camera angles that were required and matched our ideas and plans really well. As the two characters, Charlie and Caleb managed to get in the comedic side that they wanted to include. The right setting was also chosen for the video as the sixth form setting would not have portrayed the idea that the characters were room mates, more of acquaintances. It also wouldn't have fitted with the planned scenario as it was more personal which would be better seen in a home environment. Another strength was the continuity of it, as the video was filmed within an hour there were no worries about wearing different clothing, different styled hair of the layout of the setting being different.
The weaknesses of the prelim would be that the editing isn't as sharp due to how it was recorded and this also meant that the sound quality wasn't the best as we didn't use a high quality camera due to it being recorded outside of the sixth form hours. We could have also experiments with the editing more as we just ensured that we had the camera techniques correct and didn't see what it could look like with different filters or effect that could've created more of a mood in the video.
As a team we worked well together during the planning stages to come up with a final idea and presenting our plans was done effectively. Unfortunately, due to it being filmed outside of the sixth form hours i was unable to help with he actual filming process but could assist the planning and editing of it. Also as it was intended to be humorous it was hard to get through the filming without laughing and whiles keeping a straight face but despite this it didn't get fully filmed.
